Presentation on First Ladies and Their Enslaved Servants

Please join FLARE for our February 28 program in honor of Black History month at 7:00 pm eastern time. "First Ladies and Slavery” is a presentation done in conjunction with FLARE’s institutional member the White House Historical Association, WHHA. The program is introduced by Stewart McLaurin, President of the WHHA, with an explanation of their project “Slavery in the President’s Neighborhood”. WHHA Historian Sarah Fling will then do a presentation describing the relationship between first ladies and slavery, part of one-third of the first ladies' identities and lifestyles. Many of these women shared a more intimate relationship with slavery than their husbands, particularly managing enslaved servants within the home. FLARE founders Diana B. Carlin will welcome the audience with Anita McBride taking audience questions at the end for Sarah Fling. You can tune in on our YouTube channel at https://you https://www.youtube.com/@firstladiesassociationforr999 or you can go to the FLARE home page at www.flare-net.org and click on either the Facebook or YouTube icons in the bottom right corner.

That same link will take you to the program if you miss it in real time.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 28th.
