First Ladies Association for Research and Education (FLARE) Announces New Institutional Member and Program Partnership

FLARE: First Ladies Association for Research and Education is pleased to announce that the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics has become an Inaugural Lifetime Institutional Member, joining eight other prestigious member partners.

As part of this new partnership, FLARE and the Dole Institute are launching a four-part program series that began February 1, 2023.

“FLARE is honored to partner with the Dole Institute, our newest Inaugural Lifetime Institutional member, on a series of programs that highlight America’s first ladies,” said Myra G. Gutin, Ph.D., FLARE’s president. “FLARE members and other speakers will examine the first lady’s evolution, power and involvement with women’s rights, suffrage and the Equal Rights Amendment. We look forward to these discussions, hosted by one of the most respected forums in the country, and hope to continue collaborating in the future,” she added.

“The Dole Institute is excited to join FLARE as a partner in promoting women’s leadership in history and contemporary American life,” said Audrey Coleman, Director of the Dole Institute of Politics.

The four-part program series includes:

  • February 9: First Ladies and Power – Influential First Ladies You Might Not Know About. Rebecca Roberts, Katherina A.S. Sibley, Teri Finneman, speakers; Diana B. Carlin, moderator.
  • March 9: First Ladies, Women’s Rights and Suffrage. Nancy Kegan Smith, Stacy A. Cordery, speakers; Diana B. Carlin, moderator.
  • March 23: First Ladies, the ERA and Beyond. Myra G. Gutin, Bob Bostock, speakers; Audrey Coleman, moderator.

“The Dole Institute’s recognition of first ladies as part of its Presidential Lecture Series is a statement about the importance of the presidential partnership and the role first ladies play in presidential history and U.S. history,” noted Diana B. Carlin, Ph.D. and FLARE treasurer. “I look forward to each of the guests’ insights into first ladies’ histories and legacies.”

The mission of FLARE is to create and sustain a network to promote and publicize research and education relevant to the contributions, lives, impacts, and lasting legacies of U.S. First Ladies.
