○      Nancy Reagan was an accomplished stage actress and she appeared in 11 Hollywood films, her last one with her future husband.

○      Her main focus as first lady was her “Just Say No” initiative aimed at preventing drug abuse. In 1985, she hosted 17 international first ladies in an unprecedented gathering to discuss drug and alcohol abuse.

○      She promoted the idea that her husband should form a personal relationship with the new Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev as a prelude to diplomatic discussions leading to detente.

○      Nancy Reagan was the first first lady to be invited to address the United Nations General Assembly.
