Nichola D. Gutgold is a professor of communication arts and sciences at Penn State – Lehigh Valley campus and former associate dean of the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State. She is author or co-author of a number of books and articles including: Electing Madam Vice President: When Women Run, Women Win (Lexington, 2021) as well as Gender and The American Presidency (co-authors Diana Carlin and Theodore Sheckels). (Lexington, 2012). Her research focuses on the rhetorical activities of trailblazing women. She makes her research accessible to children with several children’s book versions of her academic books, her most recent: The Women of the Supreme Court: Growing Up Supremely (Eifrig Publishing, 2023). She was delighted to attend First Lady Jill Biden’s presentation of her inaugural clothing to the Smithsonian and is working on a book about Dr. Biden and a co-authored book about women world leaders (with Sheckels and Carlin). She is currently finishing a chapter on Ethel Roosevelt’s (daughter of Edith and Theodore Roosevelt) efforts to save the Summer White House, Sagamore Hill, for a book about women’s civic engagements.
